Royal recognition for principal of city college
THE principal of Stevenson College has been presented with an OBE by the Queen for services to further education.
Brian Lister, who has worked in education for almost 30 years, travelled to Buckingham Palace for the ceremony.
He joined Stevenson last month, after working as chief executive of the Scottish Further Education Unit. He received the award on Friday, October 10.
Mr Lister said: "I was thrilled to receive this OBE and to meet the Queen. I had the opportunity to mention the commitment of the college to promote charity work with our student body, and obviously expressed my delight at being able to return to work in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, once again."
Mr Lister started his career with the Scientific Civil Service in Edinburgh in 1971, before becoming a secondary school teacher at Lornshill Academy in Alloa. He then worked at Lauder College, and was appointed principal of Cumbernauld College in 1999.
More recently, he was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Scottish Qualifications Authority and he is chair of the National Certificate Key Partners Group.
He is also a board member of Equality Forward and Scotland's Colleges International and director of the Principals CPD Programme – Leading and Learning.
