Roller denies drink driving
BAY City Rollers lead singer Les McKeown has denied drink driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.
The 49-year-old had been due to be sentenced after admitting driving offences at Thames Magistrates’ Court.
But his lawyer James Edinborough argued Edinburgh-born McKeown should be allowed to take back the guilty plea, claiming a toxicology report was flawed.
District Judge Malcolm Read set aside McKeown’s convictions and adjourned the case to May 26 when a trial date will be set.
The 70s pop icon was charged with failing to stop, drink-driving and driving without insurance after his Volvo hit a Honda Civic in north London last July.
The singer, of Lower Clapton, east London, shot to fame in the 1970s with the hits Bye Bye Baby and Shang-a-Lang. McKeown declined to comment as he left the court.
