Retired farmer is given ASBO over dumping of excrement

A RETIRED farmer who let pigs live in his home has been served with an ASBO after causing so much of a stink that an entire village has been left feeling sick.

A sheriff granted the order against Peter Roy after hearing how the residents of Madderty in Perthshire - population 300 - had to live with a constant stench caused by Roy, 69, dumping human and animal waste on the road at the end of his land.

Roy has dumped thousands of gallons of waste during a four-year protest campaign against Perth and Kinross Council over claims the council should help repair his home, which is unfit for human habitation. He has also left wheelie bins, cement mixers and even a bath full of human excrement on the village's main road.

Roy lives in a caravan, with no water or toilet facility, on his farm land at Craigmuir. When he kept a herd of pigs they lived in the farmhouse, while he stayed in the primitive mobile home next door.

Perth and Kinross Council went to court to seek the interim ASBO, banning Roy from leaving waste on any of their property.
