Rescuers save pair in water
A HELICOPTER and lifeboat were called to rescue a man who almost died of hyporthermia off Portobello Beach. Rescue crews were called after two men were spotted in the water on Saturday night.
One man, who appeared to be drunk, was behaving aggressively and had to be talked round by police negotiators. When he was eventually airlifted to hospital, he had been in the water for two hours, and paramedics said his system was close to collapsing from hypothermia.
They initially gave him only a 50 per cent chance of survival, but he responded well to treatment.
