Rehabilitation gets to heart of the matter
A REHABILITATION programme designed specifically for patients with chronic heart failure has been developed by NHS Lothian's cardiac rehabilitation service.
Incorporating exercise and breathing retraining to improve mobility and breathlessness, it also covers a range of behavioural and psychological strategies.
"Dr Iain Todd, consultant in cardiovascular rehabilitation, said: "This is an important development, which we believe will greatly benefit patients coping with chronic heart failure."
Feedback from chronic heart failure patients has been very positive, with participants reporting that their confidence has improved, they are more active and they have learned how to get the most out of their lives.
