Records from Lunacy Board among haul returning to East Lothian
A FASCINATING collection of records dating back to the 18th century and including minutes from the Lunacy Board and poorhouse have been returned to East Lothian from the national archives.
Nine cages of historical records – which feature school log books, valuation rolls and militia details – have been unpacked and are now on display at Haddington’s John Gray Centre.
More archive documents, such as the Haddington Charter 1318 and the county’s poor register, are to be delivered over the next few months.
Archivist Fran Woodrow said: “This is really exciting for us. There are some really interesting records coming back to us so our new archive will finally be providing a full research facility under one roof without us having to send people to Edinburgh to look up certain records.”
