A terrified woman decided to co-operate with an attacker so she could survive, a rape trial jury has been told.

• Steven Dick denies rape and says sex was consensual

• Defendant also accused of obtaining sexual favours from women by promising TV work

The mother-of-two said she believed Steven Dick, 36, intended to kill her, but she could not accept she was going to die.

“I decided to co-operate with him. I did not see what else I could do. I was not able to reason my way out of the situation, or physically fight my way out. I did not want to be raped but I wanted to survive,” she stated.

Dick denies raping the woman in his home in Burntisland, Fife, in February last year, and has submitted a special defence that she consented to sexual conduct.

It is also alleged that Dick and Stuart Dick, 26, of Thornhill, Stirlingshire, later conspired to assault and murder the woman.

In other charges, Steven Dick alone is accused of obtaining sexual favours from five women by pretending he was auditioning them in his home for a film or a reality television programme.

The mother told the High Court in Edinburgh that she knew Dick and went to his home after he had said he wanted to speak to her about something. He ushered her into a bedroom with his hand against her back.

“Something did not feel right about it. He was quite threatening. I felt I was trapped in the room,” she said.

She tried to punch him but he struck back and she ended up in a “crumpled heap” on the floor. She was bound to the bed with cable ties and tape.

“Part of you is terrified and another part of you starts to think, What can you do, how can you handle this? I believed he was going to kill me. At the same time, I could not accept I was going to die,” she said.

The trial continues.
