Rangers know all about their troubles

TAYSIDE Police are examining CCTV footage to identify the fans who set off smoke bombs and shouted sectarian abuse during Rangers first match as a Third Division side.

A capacity crowd of 4,123 attended Glebe Park in Brechin on Sunday where newco Rangers beat Brechin City 2-1 in the Ramsdens Cup first round clash.

Tayside Police revealed yesterday that a 23-year-old man had been arrested for breach of the peace for climbing onto a floodlight during the match.

And the force said that investigations were continuing to trace supporters who set off smoke bombs during the match and one had who had been shouting sectarian remarks. A force spokesman said: “A minority tried to disrupt the game by setting off smoke bombs.”
