Queen’s Hall £8m revamp
bid rejected

A PROPOSED £8.5 million revamp of the city’s Queen’s Hall has been dealt a funding blow after it was rejected by Scotland’s arts agency.

The venue had been hoping to win backing for a complete restoration of its main auditorium and the creation of a new 125-seater venue at the back.

The plans, which involved an overhaul of the café-bar and new backstage facilities, were aimed at securing the future of the listed building after previous attempts at a refurbishment stalled over planning restrictions and funding problems.

But £2 million being sought from Creative Scotland has been rejected in their latest round for Capital projects

City culture leader Richard Lewis said the council was “extremely disappointed” the Queen’s Hall, which is not council owned, had missed out. The venue was regarded as a priority for restoration.
