What does the future hold for Rangers now that their administration has been confirmed?

What is administration?

Administrators are appointed to run a company that cannot pay its debts. They will be responsible for finding money to keep the club going while seeking to pay creditors. If the company cannot keep trading, it is liquidated and its assets are sold to pay off the bills.

What are the advantages of going into administration?

Going into administration freezes the debt. It helps preserve the value of the business and keep it running while trying to reach a compromise with creditors.

What happens next?

Administrators will be looking for ways to pay the club’s creditors, or seek a compromise with them. They will look at what assets the club has and what it owes. They could decide to sell off some assets.

What are Rangers’ assets?

The Ibrox stadium, the Murray Park training ground, players, the Rangers brand, revenue from broadcast rights and the rights to sell club merchandise.

Will the players be sold?

The administrators have a duty to look at every aspect of the business, including the playing squad.

What about Europe?

Rangers in a race to prove to the FA that its finances are in shape before 31 March or face expulsion from Europe next season.
