Pupils sharp on danger of knife crime

FIVE city youngsters have become regional finalists in a Scottish Youth Parliament competition addressing knife crime.

James Brown, 12, from Leith, Josh Andrews, 12, from Restalrig, Michael Monaghan, 13, and Andrew Williamson, 12, from Craigentinny, and Connor Ross, 12, who lives in Piershill, are all users of the Ripple Project Youth Drop In and joined together to enter the We-CTV competition – funded by No Knives, Better Lives. Their challenge was to produce a two-minute film aimed at discouraging young people from picking up a knife.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: “The We-CTV project is a fantastic idea. We’ve already seen some really creative films being produced by pupils and their involvement is making them stop and think about the negative effects of knives in their communities.”
