Pupils share ideas on new high school

A BIGGER swimming pool, lockers and hair straighteners are at the top of a pupil wish list for a new school in Midlothian.

First year pupils at Newbattle High School Taylor Watson, Morgan Rutherford, Rebecca Hares and Louisa-Alice Cresswell have shared their ideas for the new school with cabinet member for education, councillor Lisa Beattie.

Residents are now being asked for their say after Midlothian Council finalised a short questionnaire to get pupils, staff, parents, residents and businesses thinking about how it can deliver the best campus possible. There will also be three public workshops in January for people to come along and express their views.

Work on the ageing school is set to start within 18 months, as part of a £1.25 billion Scottish Government plan to build 67 new schools across the country by March 2018.
