Pupils carve out roles in conservation
A GROUP of 12 pupils from St David’s RC High in Dalkeith have completed a five-week “hands-on” training course in heritage conservation.
The course was organised by the Dalkeith Townscape Heritage Initiative and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme, together with Telford College.
The pupils volunteered to undertake the course, which took place one day a week over five weeks and covered traditional building craft skills, including plaster moulding, marbling and graining, and stone carving.
They also visited historic buildings as part of the course, gaining an understanding of how they were constructed, what materials were used and the challenges involved in caring and looking after them.
The pupils were presented with certificates by Donald Marshall, Chairman of the Dalkeith THI/CARS project team, at a ceremony Midlothian Council Chambers.
