Publishers lavish praise

THE founders of a publishing company have praised their “dedicated staff” after announcing it would close at the end of the year.

Mainstream, based in Albany Street in the New Town, has been running for 35 years and will shut its office in December, with the loss of ten jobs.

Amongst its writers are Hugh McIlvanney, Martha Long, Donald McRae, Philip Carlo and Carol Ann Lee.

Its last book will be published in March next year.

In a joint statement, founders Bill Campbell and Peter MacKenzie said: “The past 35 years have been, for the most part, an immense pleasure. It’s been our privilege to have worked with so many interesting people and talented authors and to have been surrounded by such highly professional staff.”
