Pubgoers can raise a glass to cheap pints
FIVE local pubs will slash the price of a pint to 99p from Monday.
The Wetherspoon pubs have announced a string of discounts on certain drinks and dishes at their main branches in Edinburgh and the Lothians in the hope of boosting sales.
According to Campaign for Real Ale figures the average cost of a pint of beer was 96p in 1989.
The Standing Order in George Street, The Playfair in Omni Centre, and The Foot of the Walk in Constitution Street, Leith, The Blacksmith's Forge in Newmills Road, Dalkeith and The James Young in Hopetoun Street, Bathgate will cut the price of five drinks and offer meals at 2.99.
Justin Cranley, Manager of The Foot of The Walk in Leith said: "People enjoy going to the pub, however, the economic downturn means that they now have to be more careful with their money.
"The new food and drink prices will allow people to enjoy a visit to the pub without it costing them too much.
"As always staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly."
