Protesters hand demand to Royal Bank of Scotland
STUDENTS gathered outside the Royal Bank of Scotland in St Andrew Square to protest against the bank's funding of schemes to extract oil from sand fields in Canada.
The protesters from lobby group People and Planet say the practice is environmentally damaging and has a devastating effect on the lives of indigenous communities. The group is calling on RBS to stop funding the work.
The demonstration was timed to coincide with a visit to Westminster of representatives of indigenous Canadian communities.
Mari Jones, pictured, was one of several Edinburgh University branch members of the organisation to take part in yesterday morning's protest. Spokeswoman Amanda Grimm said: "These issues are so important."
