Property firm joins chorus against 600-homes plan

The owner of the Regent Centre shopping complex in
Linlithgow has become the latest to object to a £90 million retail and housing development for West Lothian.

The Learmonth Property Investment Company said in a written statement that it opposed the development proposed for farmland in Blackness Road, Linlithgow, “in the strongest terms”.

Investment firm Wallace Land is aiming to build a supermarket, hotel, petrol 
station and 48-bed care home on the site, as well as up to 600 homes.

A total of 1175 public objections to the proposal were received by West Lothian Council during a public consultation earlier this year.

Learmonth chief executive Ronnie Urquhart said the development would impact on the viability of the town centre’s existing retail outlets.

A final decision is not expected to be made before spring next year.
