Prisoners cool off with fans
BOSSES at HMP Addiewell bought hundreds of electric fans after prisoners complained they were too hot, it was reported today.
Prisoners at the 130 million privately-operated West Lothian jail, which opened in December last year, already enjoy flat-screen televisions and en-suite showers.
Tory justice spokesman Bill Aitken has criticised the move.
He said: "Many law-abiding people cannot afford fans.
"If the cons find it too hot in jail then stop committing crime."
Prison operator Kalyx said the fans had been bought using profit from the prison shop.
