Politicians clean up their act by picking up street litter
A TEAM of politicians is to take to the streets of Leith in a bid to free the area of its grimy reputation.
Senior members of the Labour Party will hit the streets on May 26 armed with litter clearing equipment and hope to encourage members of the community to help the mission.
MSP Malcolm Chisholm and MP Mark Lazarowicz, both Edinburgh North and Leith ward representatives, along with Leith councillor Gordon Munro, will be involved in the clean-up.
Mr Chisholm said: "Action on all fronts is required to rid Leith of litter. We are doing our bit today to keep Leith beautiful."
And Mr Lazarowicz added: "As an MP I see a growing interest from communities who want to take action to improve their own area. A litter pick-up is a very practical expression of that commitment, and a reminder to local councils of what they should be doing to keep their local areas clean and tidy."
They will be joined by community groups including Greener Leith and Leith Open Space.
