Police launch summer blitz

EXTRA police patrols are set to be carried out at violence hotspots in Midlothian over the summer.

Officers will be taking part in the National Safer Scotland Anti-Violence campaign, which runs until the end of July.

The crackdown, which focuses on weapon, alcohol and public space violence, will run alongside Operation Equinox, a local campaign targeting antisocial behaviour until the end of the school holidays.

The police will also conduct more weapon stop and searches.
