Police serve up campaign to cut drink-related violence

POLICE have launched a campaign aimed at curbing violence across licensed premises in Mid and East Lothian.

Officers will distribute postcards with an anti-violence message to pubs and clubs throughout E Division this weekend, as most alcohol-
related trouble occurs at the weekend.

Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Gray said: “As part of our preventative approach to policing, Lothian and Borders Police is committed to tackling violence within communities through a combination of education and enforcement.

“The initiative will see officers distributing publicity material warning people of the consequences of alcohol-related violence, with the intention of encouraging them to avoid such behaviour.

“In addition, officers will be on high-visibility patrol in and around licensed premises across E Division, providing a reassuring presence which in order to deter violence and deal swiftly with any such incidents that arise.”
