Wanted man was seen getting on bus at same time as victim

Images have been released of a man police want to speak to in connection with an assault on an elderly man.

The 89-year-old was attacked in Grange Road, Edinburgh, at about 10:10am on 20 October, after getting off a bus.

A man grabbed him by the face and tried to rob him, but left empty-handed when he could not find anything of value.

The victim, who had just got off a bus when he was assaulted at the junction with Chalmers Crescent, was not seriously injured.

He had boarded a bus in Grange Road, then got off at Salisbury Place to go to a bank.

He then got a bus back to Grange Road, where he was
assaulted.

Lothian and Borders Police are keen to speak to a man who is shown on CCTV getting on the same bus, first in Grange Road, and a short time later in Salisbury Place.

The man is then shown getting off the bus in Grange Road at the same time as the elderly victim.

The man in the images is described as white, aged 45 to 55, about 5ft 10ins, with a heavy build, and grey hair.

He was wearing a dark jacket, black baseball cap with a Jeep logo, blue jeans and dark shoes.

Detective Constable John McShane said: “While the victim was not seriously injured or robbed, this was still a frightening experience and we are keen for any information that can assist our inquiries.

“We are keen to speak to the man who is shown getting on and off the bus at the same time as the victim, as part of our inquiries, and we would urge anyone who recognises him to contact police immediately.”
