Police investigate ‘unexplained’ death of infant at Aberdeen flat
Police are investigating
DETECTIVES in Aberdeen are investigating the “unexplained” death of an infant.
Officers from Grampian Police have been deployed to a block of flats at Fraser Court, off the city’s George Street, since Wednesday afternoon following the infant’s death in hospital.
It is understood that officers were first called to the address shortly before the infant died.
A force spokesman said in a brief statement, issued shortly before midnight: “Grampian Police can confirm that the ongoing investigation at an address in George Street, Aberdeen, relates to an unexplained death. As is normal in such circumstances a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
But Grampian Police have now confirmed that the death at the centre of the investigation concerns that of a young infant who has still to be identified.
A force spokesman said: “Grampian Police confirm they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant yesterday, Wednesday 10 October. The child was admitted to hospital around 5pm the same day, from an address in George Street in Aberdeen.”
Detective Inspector Graeme Mackie, who is leading the enquiry, said: “Enquiries into the death are at a very early stage. As is normal in such circumstances a post mortem will be carried out and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
