Police hail fall in antisocial behaviour

Lothian and Borders Police have reported a dramatic fall in reports of antisocial behaviour in a part of East Lothian.

Figures released by the Antisocial Behaviour Team at East Lothian Council show that in July 2011 a total of 193 complaints were made within the Fa’side ward.

Over the same period this year, 108 reports were made – a fall of 44 per cent.

Local officers in Fa’side are also delighted with the decline in youth-related complaints in the area.

In July last year, 73 reports of youth-related crime were made. However, over the course of last month only 27 calls were made, amounting to a 63 per cent decrease.

Inspector Helen Miller said: “These statistics show that through a combined and concerted effort Lothian and Borders Police and East Lothian Council are making a real difference to our communities.

“It is particular pleasing to achieve such results in July given the schools are on holiday and I believe the year-long work that has been undertaken to tackle underage drinking and the purchase of alcohol for minors in Tranent has been a major factor.”
