Police condemn ‘shameful’ theft of Ryder Cup memorabilia collection
GRAMPIAN Police have condemned the “shameful” theft of a collection of sporting and television memorabilia which was set to auctioned for charity.
The items, including a golf bag signed by Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team and an Arsenal top, were stolen from a house in Peterhead’s Rattray Road between 13 June and 4 July.
Detective Constable Kevin MacDonald, who is investigating the incident, said: “This is a shameful theft of items which were aimed at raising money for charity. These are clearly very distinctive items so it’s possible someone may have seen them either in someone’s home or for sale somewhere. “
He added: “”We are appealing for the communities assistance in identifying those responsibility and I would urge anyone who may have any information at all about this incident to contact us as soon as possible.2
A force spokesman explained: “The items stolen were being stored before being auctioned on behalf of a variety of charity groups. The items include an Arsenal 1996-97 football strip signed by the team at the time, a top worn by actress Jenny McAlpine during an episode of Coronation Street , a Valhalla Golf flag signed by the Ryder Cup team, a book signed by BBC golf commentator Peter Alliss, and a limited edition water colour painting of Cruden Bay.”
