Police call centre right
on target

THE police call centre for the Lothians has continued to hit national targets for answering 999 calls within ten seconds, according to a report.

The facility at Bilston Glen answered 96 per cent of the 80,724 emergency calls received between April and December within target.

That means the £10.4 million facility exceeded its goal of 90 per cent.

The police figures showed 98 per cent of the 456,535 non-emergency calls to the switchboard were answered in the target of 40 seconds.

During the nine months, officers attended 88 per cent of 17,924 emergencies within the target times. The targets are ten minutes for Edinburgh and 20 minutes for rural areas.

The centre has consistently hit targets for the speed of answering emergency and non-emergency calls from the public over the past two years.
