Police appeal over identity of woman robbed of mobile phone

Police today appealed for information to help identify a woman who was robbed in the Newington area of Edinburgh last night.

The woman, who is described as being of Chinese appearance, was robbed of her mobile phone in Sciennes around 10.15pm.

A member of the public witnessed the incident and alerted police, who detained the four suspects in Lauriston Place.

It is not known whether the woman suffered any injury as a result of the incident.

DCI Gary Cunningham said: “It is vital that we trace the woman whose mobile phone was stolen, and I would ask anyone who has any information that can assist us in doing so to come forward.

“Anyone who was in the Sciennes area between 10pm and 11pm yesterday, who either witnessed the incident or who thinks they saw the victim there, should contact police.

“Likewise, I would urge the victim to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131,
