Police appeal after man, 64, assaulted by youths

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Edinburgh on Wednesday night.

The incident happened sometime between 11pm and 11.30pm on Wednesday in Craigentinny Road.

After leaving a local Chinese takeaway, the 64-year-old was verbally abused by a group of youths.

The man then confronted the group and was pushed to the ground, suffering a broken hip.

He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he continues to be treated for his injuries.

The youths are only described as being in their early to mid-teens.

A police spokesman said: “We are keen to speak to any passing motorists, pedestrians or patrons from the takeaway who remember seeing the youths in the area and can help us identify them.”
