Plumed Horse earns its spurs with top award

A MICHELIN-starred restaurant in Leith has been named best in Scotland at a prestigious industry awards ceremony.

The Plumed Horse was named Restaurant of the Year Scotland at the AA Hospitality Awards 2009-2010.

Chef Tony Borthwick and general manager Ian Bruce picked up the award at the ceremony in London, hosted by Natasha Kaplinsky.

Guests also enjoyed a performance by Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity.

The duo said: "This is testimony to all the hard work that has been put into the Plumed Horse by ourselves and our key people. We are absolutely delighted – and just a little bit proud at the same time."

They opened the restaurant on Henderson Street in 2007, after running one with the same name in Crossmichael.

Giovanna Grossi, an area manager with the AA, said: "We selected The Plumed Horse because this intimate, simple yet stylish restaurant boasts impressive modern cuisine with a consistent approach to cooking, along with an impressive wine list and personalised, attentive service."

Other winners included the Gleneagles Hotel, in Perthshire.
