Plea for anti-ram-raid bollards
A CITY post office is counting on having bollards installed on the pavement outside to prevent the repeat of an attempted ram-raid, which caused more than £10,000 worth of damage.
A car was driven hard into the metal shutters of Blackford Avenue Post Office in March, shattering the glass front and causing the window frame to warp.
Now councillors are to consider placing bollards in front of the post office to deter further raids.
Mahmood Hassan, who has been running the post office with his wife Shazia since November 2006, is hoping the bollards will prevent attempted raids.
He said: "I requested that the council put the bollards outside the shop. I'm hoping that putting them there would mean this sort of thing will not happen again. It's a preventative measure."
Police said the ram-raid, which took place on Sunday, March 9 at about 11.50pm, had been unsuccessful, with the suspects fleeing empty-handed.
