Pipes alert as winter bites

EDINBURGH businesses have been warned to be vigilant against frozen pipes and flooding after 2011’s mild winter.

Ian Hewson, manager at water provider Business Stream, said last year’s winter could have lessened the urgency with which firms plan for the colder months.

He said: “It’s relatively easy to protect against frozen pipes, but businesses and public bodies have to make sure they know what to do and when to take action so as not to be caught out again.”
