Pervert must wait to learn details of his jail sentence
A PERVERT who offered to let paedophile friends abuse a baby boy in his care must wait to hear his fate.
James Rennie, 38, had been chief executive of LGBT Youth Scotland until his sordid double life was revealed.
After a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh convicted him and paint firm engineer Neil Strachan, 41, of leading roles in Scotland's worst paedophile rings, they were threatened with life sentences by judge Lord Bannatyne.
Such sentences – known as Orders for Lifelong Restriction – require thorough and far-reaching background reports before a judge can impose them.
The psychologist tasked with reporting on the risk Rennie poses to the public has asked for more time to complete the work, the court heard yesterday.
Rennie and Strachan were due back in court on 29 July.
Rennie is now due to be sentenced on 25 September and yesterday's decision makes it unlikely that Strachan will be sentenced before then. Both men are remanded in custody. Six other men have already been jailed.
The two month trial heard that Rennie sent out sick e-mails offering access to a little boy he had been baby-sitting since the tot was only three months old, and regularly abused the youngster himself.
