Perth is in the top three towns competing for Diamond Jubilee city status, according to a YouGov poll.
The Scottish town received the least number of negative votes of all of the competing Diamond Jubilee city status towns, and received positive votes from 11 per cent of those questioned.
It is competing against front runners Bournemouth and Reading- as well as 24 other candidate towns spread across the UK.
London’s Tower Hamlets district was voted least deserving of city status.
The most recent new city statuses to be handed out heralded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002, and included Stirling, as well as Preston in England, Newport in Wales and Lisburn and Newry in Northern Ireland.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 06:01 PMWhen you consider that Perth and Dundee were almost the same size once, then you have to realise why Perth lost city status in the first place.
