Pensioner robbed as she gave men directions

A PENSIONER had £500 taken from her bank account by thieves who stole her purse while asking for directions.

The 65-year-old woman was leaving Tesco in Bathgate at 12:15pm on Tuesday when she was approached by two, possibly Mediterranean, men with a map.

The woman opened the car door and let the man lay the map on her passenger seat while she gave directions.

Forty-five minutes later the woman noticed that her purse was missing. It is thought the man reached into her bag and took it while she was distracted.

By 1pm there had been six transactions withdrawing 500 from her account. The men are believed to have previously noted her PIN number in the shop.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is requested to contact Bathgate Police Station on 01506-652 323.
