Partnership open doors to latest health flat

A NEW community health flat in the south of Edinburgh has been officially opened by MSP Margo MacDonald.

The flat has been developed in partnership and funded by the Community Health Partnership (CHP) and the city council through the Fairer Scotland fund.

The flat, at Craigour in Edinburgh, has been designed to help tackle health inequalities by providing community healthcare in a non-medical environment.

It will offer services developed in consultation with local people, such as healthy living advice, baby massage, first aid, adult literacy classes, weaning classes and complementary therapies.

David White, assistant general manager at Edinburgh CHP, said: "The opening of the Craigour community health flat is a great opportunity to deliver health services locally in a friendly non-clinical environment."

There are currently three health flats in Edinburgh, with another in development.

Councillor Paul Edie, convener for health, social care and housing at the city council, said: "These flats deliver services tailored to what the local people have asked for."
