Officers snare weapons haul

NEARLY 250 people were caught carrying offensive weapons during police searches in the Lothians over six months, new figures have shown.

A total of 249 “positive” searches were carried out in the area between April and September.

The weapons were found during the 6440 searches conducted during the period.

In Edinburgh, 147 out of 3373 searches proved “positive” over the six months.
