OAPs treated in hospital after blazes

TWO elderly women have been treated in hospital after separate fires in West Lothian.

Fire crews rushed to the scene of a blaze in Red Wing Brae, Livingston, after receiving an emergency call just before 5.45pm yesterday.

They said a pan of food had caught fire but that the flames were extinguished before their arrival.

A female casualty, understood to be 76 years old, was given oxygen at the scene before being taken to St John’s Hospital in Livingston and treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were then called to extinguish another blaze in a kitchen in Henderson Crescent, Broxburn, shortly after 6.30pm.

They said that fire had also been put out before they arrived at the property. Another elderly woman, understood to be 78 years old, was provided with oxygen before being taken to St John’s and treated for minor smoke inhalation.
