Nurse struck off register over her criminal history

A NURSE who was convicted three times for criminal behaviour has been banned from the profession.

Bridget McAleer also failed to consent to a medical examination on six separate occasions after bosses witnessed the nurse “shaking and sweating” while on shift.

McAleer, from Dalkeith, Midlothian, was employed by NHS Lothian Primary Care Trust between 2002 and 2007.

A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) investigation discovered she had been found guilty of breaching a court bail order in 2009, breaching the peace in May 2010 and resisting or hindering police officers three months later.

McAleer was admonished on all three charges at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

In striking McAleer from the nursing register, the NMC panel stated: “The panel considered that Ms McAleer’s criminal convictions to be a breach of the fundamental tenets of the nursing profession.”
