‘No risk to public’ in man hunt over domestic incident

POLICE have moved to reassure the public as they revealed that they are trying to trace a missing man in the wake of a “domestic incident”.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said there was nothing to confirm rumours that the man is armed.

The force said the initial incident happened yesterday morning at a house in Port Road, Haugh of Urr, near Castle Douglas. Officers are trying to find a local man who went missing after the incident and was last seen heading to an area of open ground. Police insisted there was no risk of harm to the public.

The force said: “Police understand there are rumours of this man being armed. There is nothing at this stage to confirm these rumours. Schools remain open and parents are urged that local school runs are not affected and they should pick up their children as normal.”
