Nine vie for
Byrne award

NINE teams from city schools have been selected as finalists for a prestigious award.

The John Byrne Award is an annual competition which asks sixth-year pupils to “show the world what’s important to you”. It then challenges them to express these values through a painting, a poem, a play, or any other creative project.

This year’s stimulus is the Proclaimers song, Letter From America.

Finalists include teams from Boroughmuir High, Craigmount High, Drummond Community High, George Watson’s College, James Gillespie’s High, St Thomas of Aquin’s High, Wester Hailes Education Centre and two teams from Liberton High.

The winner will receive £5000 to support a project or organisation that creates social change.
