Next phase of Waverley work begins

WORK to restore the concourse and ticket office at the heart of Waverley Station is set to begin.

Engineering company Spencer, which is carrying out the station overhaul, will tend to lights, windows, fittings, masonry and electrics.

New facilities, including lifts, will be put in place to improve Network Rail facilities and add space for the train operators.

Alan Rundell, project manager for Spencer, said: “Although work such as this brings a wide range of challenges, it is also extremely rewarding for Spencer to play their part in delivering major improvements on such an iconic station.

“It is great to be a part of a project which grows before commuters’ eyes as they pass through each day, and to be able to see the public benefit from these improvements as they happen.”

Spencer will also be working on top of the station, above the waiting area, carrying out waterproofing and reinforcement work.

The company recently installed a 200-tonne glazed footbridge to the south of the station.
