New kidney – and a new love of red wine
LESLEY Angus was never partial to red wine – until she received a kidney from her big sister.
The 34-year-old is convinced her sister, Lorainne Moar, passed on her liking for the drink when she gave her the life-changing organ.
Ms Angus, a mother of two from Aberdeenshire, who suffered from nephrotic syndrome – which causes the kidneys to leak large amounts of protein from the blood into the urine – said: "I never used to drink red wine."
Ms Moar, 44, said she was only too glad to donate one of her healthy kidneys to give her sister, who was receiving dialysis four times a day, an improved quality of life.
Sue Johnstone, a spokeswoman for the Transplant in Mind charity, said: "We have heard a few stories like this over the years, like people developing a talent for painting, or a real interest in shopping after a transplant.
"However, there's never been any scientific proof to back these things up."
