New dimension for city sites

THE Capital's Old Town and New Town are among a list of World Heritage Sites being documented as part of an innovative 3D heritage project.

Historic Scotland will use groundbreaking digital technology to scan ten heritage sites across the world, beginning with Mount Rushmore in the US.

The South Dakota landmark, which has four former American presidents carved into the rock, will be scanned in 3D to provide, for the first time, a visual documentation of the monument.

Culture Minister Michael Russell said: "Scotland has great expertise and a wealth of experience in preserving, understanding and researching its historic environment."
