Jahirul Islam was set upon by two men who repeatedly smashed his head on the road and dropped a boulder on his knee as he walked home from the St John's Curry Club restaurant in Corstorphine after his shift.
The father-of-three was kicked and punched to the ground by the men who shouted racist abuse while continuing the unprovoked assault for about five minutes. The 37-year-old was left with a broken nose, cuts and bruises to his face and an injured knee.
