New appeal over racist attack on chef

POLICE today made a fresh appeal for information over a racist attack on a curry chef and issued new descriptions of two suspects.

Jahirul Islam was set upon by two men who repeatedly smashed his head on the road and dropped a boulder on his knee as he walked home from the St John's Curry Club restaurant in Corstorphine after his shift.

The father-of-three was kicked and punched to the ground by the men who shouted racist abuse while continuing the unprovoked assault for about five minutes. The 37-year-old was left with a broken nose, cuts and bruises to his face and an injured knee.

The attack took place in in Hutchison Crossway on Saturday, 25 April.

Officers are particularly keen to talk to a man, described as white and in his fifties, who was seen in the area walking a small white dog at the time of the attack. A man and a woman also came to the victim's aid once the attackers had run off, and police have still to trace them.

The first suspect is described as white, about 20 years old, with black or brown hair, and was wearing a black jacket.

The second man is described as white, aged about 20, and wearing a white jacket.
