Naked Rambler lands jail term for in-flight strip

THE Naked Rambler Stephen Gough has been jailed for four months after being found guilty of stripping off on a plane flying from Southampton to Edinburgh.

The 47-year-old ex-marine went into a toilet on the early morning Flybe flight and emerged about 20 minutes later, naked, except for socks and boots.

Gough of Eastleigh, Hampshire, denied the charges of breach of the peace and public indecency, but was found guilty after trial.

Sheriff Noel McPartlin asked him to put on clothes in Edinburgh Sheriff Court, but Gough refused and was sent to the cells.

Cabin crew told Sheriff McPartlin that on the morning of May 18 this year the plane was about half-full.

Senior cabin crew member Karen Hopewell, 24, said she saw Gough's naked bottom as he walked down the aisle.

Ms Hopewell said she twice asked the man, she identified as Gough, to put on his clothes, but he refused. She said she had initially been shocked.

Gough was arrested at Edinburgh Airport.
