Muslims plan city protest

Dozens of Muslims were set to hold a peaceful protest outside the Scottish Parliament today over an American film they say is insulting to Islam.

Up to 100 people were expected to gather to condemn the film, Innocence of Muslims, which is said to insult the Prophet Muhammed, with violent protests seen in many countries.

Organiser Aleem Farooqi, 42, said many protesters would be attending after prayers at the Edinburgh Mosque.

He said: “We are expecting 80 to 100 people but it could be more. Digital media helped in informing people quickly.

“Seeing someone insult the Prophet Muhammad is very disappointing. We need to stop religious hatred.”
