MSP’s warning over ‘health directory’ scam

Midlothian North and Musselburgh MSP Colin Beattie has warned residents to be on their guard against a new health scam.

The European-wide scam sees victims offered inclusion into a “European Medical Directory” and claims it will help them locate their correct doctor.

But hidden in the small print are costs which many people will pay in order to avoid the empty threats of legal action.

The “directory” is not authorised by the European Union and is part of a private company based in Lisbon.

Mr Beattie said: “It’s disgraceful and shocking that these scammers target our greatest concern, which is our health, as a way to make money.

“We need to make more people aware of this so that we can try to limit the damage done, hopefully then less people can be affected by it.”
