MSP launches drive to save post office

A PUBLIC meeting to discuss the future of Warrender Park Road Post Office will be held tomorrow.

Mike Pringle MSP has called a public meeting in the main hall at Marchmont St Giles Church, Kilgraston Road, at 7.30pm.

The local post office has been earmarked for closure as part of a rationalisation project that will see 2500 post offices closed across the UK.

A Royal Mail representative will be available to speak to local residents and answer questions about the proposed closure.

Mr Pringle said a good turnout may well be vital in showing community support for the Warrender Park Road branch.

He said: "Warrender Park Road Post Office provides a vital local service, and I will be campaigning hard alongside local residents to save it from closure.

"Edinburgh City Council recently voted overwhelmingly by a margin of 43 to 15 to condemn these cuts, which just goes to show the depth of feeling among Edinburgh residents."

The MSP for Edinburgh South has launched a petition against the closure, which will be available to sign at the meeting.

People can also get involved in the campaign by submitting their own response to the Royal Mail's public consultation.
