MSP backs proposal for ‘eco-toun’
LOTHIANS Green MSP Alison Johnstone has backed a new “Transition Toun” initiative in Musselburgh to cut dependence on oil and prepare for climate change.
The group wants to find ways to eat more locally grown food, promote low-carbon forms of travel and reduce waste.
In a motion at the Scottish Parliament, Ms Johnstone will congratulate Musselburgh Transition Toun on establishing itself as a charitable organisation and claim local food trade and production and sustainable transport, such as cycling, will benefit public health, the local economy and the environment.
