MP hits out at scaled-down stadium plan
PLANS to scale down Meadowbank Stadium have been branded a "crime" and a waste of money.
Mark Lazarowicz, MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, is supporting the campaign to reverse the city council's decision to demolish the landmark stadium and replace it with a smaller sports centre.
He said: "The council has spent more than 1 million on reports and studies which have got nowhere. As well as its national role, Meadowbank is the only large sports facility for much of north and east Edinburgh.
"I'm very worried that all we might end up with is a small sports centre with limited facilities.
"It would be a crime to lose the wide range of facilities that we have at Meadowbank."
Edinburgh East MP Gavin Strang is already supporting the campaign to save the existing stadium, along with local community councils.
